I was born and raised in Cambodia. I’m a self taught artist. As a child I liked drawing but wasn’t any good at it; and certainly never thought of pursuing that path.

But in 2017 I converted my bedroom into an art studio. I initially painted and wrote poetry as a way to access my own inner state, emotions and experiences. Much of the influence also came from where I studied. I did my MA degree in gender studies (and now pursuing my PhD in visual sociology) at Goldsmiths, University of London, a school known for specialising in art. Although much of my studies and research centred on sociological issues, they very much intersect with art.

Both my paintings and poetry cover various themes ranging from body issue, reproductive rights to broken relationships. The paintings and poetry aim to explore and bring to the forefront difficult emotions such as guilt, sadness, childhood trauma and loneliness.

I typically uses acrylic and apply striking colours in my paintings. While most of my paintings are non-figurative, they are usually not confined to one particular style. The poems, on the other hand, are usually written in simple language. This is guided by the belief that using, ordering (and re-ordering) of simple words is powerful in creating shared experience. My poems usually feature the reclaiming of identity under a patriarchal society, motherhood, shame and self-love.
